Frequently asked questions.

We have posted some questions that we get asked regularly to help you out. Take a look.

Q. Have your staff been Police checked?
A. All our tutors have been CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked.

Q. What will I need to bring with me to my lessons?
A. You will need to bring the following:
- Yourself.
- Your instrument (except for drummers)
- Electric guitarists, please note we have amplifiers and leads for students to use in their lesson.
- Please also bring any worksheets given to you by your House of Music tutor.
- Any payments due.

Q. I'm interested in learning to play guitar but don't currently own one. What can I do?
A. You can rent a 'starter set' from us. The set comprises of an electric guitar with its bag and strap, a guitar amplifier, cable and pick.

To rent a set you will be required to pay a deposit and one month’s rental fee. The deposit is refundable when the starter set is returned in the same condition. Please contact us for further information.

Q. I'm thinking of buying my first guitar. Can you give me any advice?
A. Yes, please see our downloads section. There you will find a downloadable PDF document called 'Buying Your First Guitar' which should give you some helpful hints and even some recommendations.

Q. What happens if I'm late for my lesson?
A. Your lessons start and finish at their appointed time, if you are late your lesson will still have to stop at its usual time. This is because the tutor may have another lesson to teach after yours.

Q. What if I can't make my lesson?
A. If you know you will be unable to make a lesson, please contact your tutor to let them know. They may then be able to re-schedule an alternative time that week for you.

If you miss a lesson because you forgot, please contact your tutor to see if an alternative time is available. Unfortunately that may not always be the case in which case you will still be charged for the missed lesson.

Like many other extra educational courses, your fees reserve your place on the course. If for whatever reason you miss a lesson you know your place is reserved. No refunds will be made unless it is the direct fault of House of Music.

Q. Will I get to study for any of my grades (music exams)?
A. If you wish to study for any music grades please let your tutor know. They can then arrange to help you apply and coach you for this.

Q. I've broken a string, what do I do?
A. All is not lost, it happens. Fortunately we can fit a new string for you in your lesson, either bring one along, or you can buy one from us (see our enclosed price list).

Q. I've lost my pick/plectrum?
A. We carry supplies of commonly used music items which you can buy from us direct (see our shop).

Q. What happens if I am late returning my hired gear?
A. You will be charged another weeks rent.
